Severe Acute Pancreatitis
- Associated with organ failure and/or local complications such as necrosis
- Clinical manifestations
- Obesity BMI > 30
- Hemoconcentration (hematocrit > 44%)
- Age > 70
- Organ failurea
- Shock
- Pulmonary insufficiency (PO2 < 60)
- Renal failure (CR > 2.0 mg%)
- GI bleeding
- ≥ 3 Ransom criteria (not fully utilizable until 48 h)
- Apache II score > 8 (cumbersome)
aUsually declares itself shortly after onset.
